Privacy Policy
Last Updated: February 27, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what data the ChatGPT Chrome Extension ("Extension," "we," "us," or "our") collects, how we use it, how we store it, and with whom we share it.
By installing or using the Extension, you agree to the data practices described in this Policy. If you do not agree, please uninstall the Extension and stop using the service.
1. What Data We Collect
We collect only the data necessary to provide and protect the service. The Extension does not require account registration and does not collect your name, email address, or other personal contact information (unless you contact us directly).
1.1. Google Search Queries
When you perform a search on Google, the Extension reads your search query text from the Google search page. This query is sent to our backend server to generate an AI-powered response displayed alongside the search results.
1.2. Browser Fingerprint
The Extension collects a browser fingerprint — a set of technical characteristics of your browser and device. This fingerprint is not personally identifiable information and cannot be used to identify you as an individual.
The fingerprint consists of the following components:
- Canvas hash — a SHA-256 hash derived from how your browser renders graphics (unique to your device/browser combination)
- Screen resolution (e.g., "1920x1080")
- Timezone (e.g., "Europe/Moscow")
- Browser language (e.g., "en-US")
- Platform (e.g., "MacIntel")
- Hardware concurrency (number of CPU cores)
- Installation ID — a unique identifier generated once when the Extension is installed
- Hardware hash — a SHA-256 hash of the combined hardware parameters above
- Full fingerprint hash — a SHA-256 hash of the entire fingerprint object
The fingerprint is generated once upon first use after installation. It is stored locally in the browser's extension storage and sent to our server with each request.
1.3. Usage Data
Our server automatically records:
- Number of requests made by your fingerprint (used to enforce usage limits)
- Timestamps of when you use the service (first use, last use, usage limit reset times)
1.4. Error Reports
If the Extension encounters a technical error, an error report may be sent to our error tracking service. Error reports may include:
- Error message and stack trace
- Browser type and version
- Extension version
Error reports do not include your search queries, fingerprint, or any personally identifiable information.
1.5. Data We Do NOT Collect
The Extension does not collect:
- Browsing history or activity outside of Google Search
- Cookies or tracking pixels
- Personal information (name, email, phone number, address)
- Passwords or financial information
- Data from third-party websites or social media
- Contents of web pages you visit
2. How We Use Your Data
| Data | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Search queries | Forwarded to a third-party AI provider to generate responses. Not stored on our servers. |
| Browser fingerprint | Fraud prevention and abuse protection — to enforce fair usage limits and prevent automated abuse of the free service. |
| Usage data (request counts, timestamps) | Enforcing usage limits and cooldown periods. |
| Error reports | Diagnosing and fixing technical issues in the Extension. |
We do not use any collected data for advertising, user profiling, behavioral tracking, or any purpose other than those listed above.
3. Who We Share Your Data With
We share data only with the following third parties, and only to the extent necessary to provide the service:
| Third Party | Data Shared | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| OpenRouter (openrouter.ai) | Your search query text | AI response generation. OpenRouter forwards the query to an AI model (e.g., Google Gemini) and returns the response. See OpenRouter's Privacy Policy. |
| Sentry (sentry.io) | Error reports (error messages, browser type, extension version) | Error monitoring and debugging. See Sentry's Privacy Policy. |
We do not sell, rent, or trade your data to any third party. We do not share your browser fingerprint with any third party.
Legal Disclosure
We may disclose your data if required to do so by law, or if we believe in good faith that such disclosure is necessary to: (a) comply with a legal obligation; (b) protect our rights or safety, or the rights and safety of our users; (c) investigate fraud or respond to a government request.
4. How We Store Your Data
4.1. Local Storage (Your Device)
The browser fingerprint is stored locally in your browser's extension storage (chrome.storage.local). This data remains on your device and is automatically deleted when you uninstall the Extension or clear the Extension's data through Chrome settings.
4.2. Server-Side Storage
Our backend server stores the following data:
- Fingerprint hashes (hardware hash and full hash) — stored for as long as the service operates, used to identify returning users for usage limit enforcement.
- Installation ID — stored alongside the fingerprint hashes.
- Usage counters (number of requests and tokens used) — automatically reset every 5 hours.
- Timestamps (account creation date, last activity date, last usage reset date).
Search queries are not stored on our server. They are processed in real-time (forwarded to the AI provider and discarded).
4.3. Security
All data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections. Fingerprint data is stored as one-way SHA-256 hashes and cannot be reversed to obtain the original device characteristics. We implement reasonable technical and organizational security measures to protect your data against unauthorized access, alteration, or destruction.
5. Data Retention
| Data | Retention Period |
|---|---|
| Search queries | Not retained. Processed in real-time and discarded immediately. |
| Fingerprint hashes and Installation ID | Stored on our server indefinitely (until you request deletion or the service is discontinued). |
| Usage counters | Reset automatically every 5 hours. |
| Error reports (Sentry) | Retained for 90 days, then automatically deleted by Sentry. |
| Local fingerprint (your device) | Deleted when you uninstall the Extension or clear its data. |
6. Your Choices and Rights
Stop Data Collection
You can stop all data collection at any time by uninstalling the Extension. No data will be collected or sent after uninstallation.
Delete Local Data
To delete locally stored fingerprint data without uninstalling: go to Chrome Settings → Extensions → ChatGPT Chrome Extension → Details → Clear data (or "Site settings" → "Clear data").
Request Server-Side Data Deletion
To request deletion of your fingerprint data from our server, contact us at cce-team@nice-app.net. We will delete your record within 30 days of receiving your request.
EU/EEA Data Subject Rights
If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your data, and to object to processing. To exercise these rights, contact us at cce-team@nice-app.net. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
7. Legal Basis for Processing (EEA Users)
For users in the European Economic Area, we process your data on the following legal grounds:
- Legitimate interest — processing fingerprint data and usage data to prevent fraud and abuse of the free service (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
- Performance of a contract — processing search queries to provide the AI response service you requested by using the Extension (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR).
- Legal obligation — disclosing data when required by law (Article 6(1)(c) GDPR).
8. Children's Privacy
The Extension is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly.
9. International Data Transfers
Your data may be processed on servers located outside your country of residence. By using the Extension, you consent to the transfer and processing of your data in these locations. We ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place to protect your data in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
10. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Your continued use of the Extension after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Policy.
